BLUESCATS

It has always been a dream of the Bluescats to bring them all together: Brenda Boykin, Tommie Harris, Ralf Grottian, and saxophonist Bernd Winterschladen. Together with organist Dirk Schaadt, with whom Jens Filser plays in his Organic Blues project, they wanted to return to the roots of the blues. Thus, the idea of recording a CD exclusively with Willie Dixon was born.

Willie Dixon played a decisive role in the development of the blues in the 50s and 60s. He was not only the house bassist for Chess Records in Chicago, but also a veritable song factory for the artists signed there, such as Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson, to name just a few. However, his songs really made him famous in the 60s and 70s with bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Eric Clapton.

Now, the Bluescats belong to the generation that thought Bring It On Home was a Led Zeppelin song, Jim Morrison was the Backdoor Man, and Mick Jagger was the Little Red Rooster. It took them a while to get to the roots and explore Willie Dixon and the many other blues greats of his generation. Brenda and Tommie inspired us in this search and shared their experience with them.

The CD was recorded in a single day at Rockcity Studio in Solingen. The song selection and arrangements all happened spontaneously, guided by a single guiding principle: the immense joy of playing the blues together.
