Chris Lauffs is a singer-songwriter from Seeheim-Jugenheim in southern Hesse. He has been writing and making music for over 20 years and usually performs solo on stages in and around Darmstadt, but also further afield. Chris writes sophisticated, down-to-earth songs in German, consciously working against the trend of predominantly English-language music. His lyrics focus on specific themes beyond typical love songs, such as a humorous anti-drug song ("Adrenalin"), an emotional encounter with a musician ("Straßenmusiker"), a tribute to a writer ("Antoine"), a poignant account of a gambler's downfall ("Rouge oder Noir"), or the lonely life of a singer ("Unterwegs"). Of course, poetic romantic songs are also part of his repertoire. Chris accompanies himself on acoustic guitar and blues harp; some songs are also written for piano. His melodies and arrangements are less oriented towards conventional singer-songwriter accompaniment and more towards Americana, reminiscent of Jackson Browne or Joni Mitchell, for example. Further influences can be found in the British songwriter Al Stewart and the French chansonnier Francis Cabrel.
