CHRIS LAUFFS

Chris Lauffs is a singer-songwriter from Seeheim-Jugenheim in southern Hesse. He has been writing and making music for over 20 years and performs mostly solo on stages in the Darmstadt area and beyond. Chris writes sophisticated, grounded songs in German, consciously bucking the trend of preferring English as a musical language. His lyrics focus on unusual themes outside of conventional love poetry, such as a humorous anti-drug song ("Adrenalin"), an emotional encounter with a musician ("Straßenmusiker"), a homage to a writer ("Antoine"), a sad account of a gambler's fate ("Rouge oder Noir"), and the lonely life of a singer ("Unterwegs"). Of course, his repertoire also includes poetic, romantic songs. Chris accompanies himself on acoustic guitar and blues harp; some songs are also written for piano. His melodies and arrangements are less oriented toward conventional singer-songwriter accompaniment, leaning more toward Americana, reminiscent of Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell, for example. Other influences include British songwriter Al Stewart and French chansonnier Francis Cabrel. There's a German cover version of a Gordon Lightfoot song.

In 2019 his first CD was released, with his 12 favorite songs: “Adrenalin”.

Several music videos have been published on YouTube, some of them as live performances with the band.
