FLORIAN GLÄSSING

Love is an ocean. And we're thrown into it, learning to swim and getting our seahorse badge. Or not. Sometimes we drown in it because we have an emotional backpack on our backs that pulls us into the depths. But sometimes we manage to throw off the backpack and feel another force gently lift us up into the light. Florian Glässing's songs are about how that happens.
His music is voluptuous and cuts to the core. It emphasizes sincerity and intimacy, fragile harmonies, and clear, poetic lyrics. Like a good poem, you discover new facets in a Glässing song even after listening to it ten times—and before you know it, he's a loyal friend you'll remember fondly.
Florian was discovered by songwriter Tom Liwa in the late 90s when he organized a concert with Liwa. Under the pretext that the announced support act (who, of course, was never requested) was unavailable, he performed as the opening act himself. After the concert, the two spontaneously decided to continue Liwa's tour together the next day. Subsequently, the two played countless concerts together and recorded the album LOPNOR (Normal Records, 2002), about which the intro wrote: "This is a sensational album. Period."

When the music industry decided to shut itself down for the time being, Florian Glässing turned to literature, translating and editing novels—always keeping Tom Liwa's quote in mind: "You'll never stop making music." Tom would prove himself right. In 2011, Glässing met singer/songwriter Desiree Klaeukens and wrote and produced the songs for her critically acclaimed debut, WENN DIE NACHT DEN TAG VERDECKT (Tapete Records, 2014). Together they toured with Niels Frevert, Gisbert zu Knyphausen, Cäthe, and Die Höchste Eisenbahn. At the same time, he's also working on his own music again, releasing the EP WO DER SCHATZ LIEGT in 2016. Over the last two years, he has finally produced the long-player ALTE LIEBE: ten wildly romantic songs in which he deals with futile love and wounded masculinity, dressing indie folk in jazzy-pop garments – and finally sprinkling everything with a fine pinch of Americana.
