Friedel Geratsch: a brain-trigger with endless ideas for songs that simply have to be heard. One almost gets the feeling that the old saying "the older, the better" was coined for Friedel, because there's probably no other major creative artist currently releasing a new Geier album every year. Before anyone thinks Geier is tired – not at all. Geier is far from in a nosedive; rather, he's on a steep upward trajectory.
In contrast to its predecessor, "Trotzdem," which was only released in January of this year, this time it's a bit rockier. No reggae, forget the Caribbean feeling - this time Friedel seems to have dedicated himself to the discord of our time, wrapping the topics in relaxed lyrics that sometimes offend. And yet there's a hell of a lot of sunshine, because it's also about love, friendships, and life in general: "Make the house shake, turn up the speakers. It's time to dance and get going." Party mood? Maybe. But the album is more of an ode to life, and it's worth remembering that it's the good things in life that bring the sunshine into our homes and, above all, our hearts. We then run into old acquaintances, because this time too, Friedel has teamed up with his well-known collaborators Carlo von Steinfurt and Reiner Hundsdoerfer, true to the motto "never change a running system," to give the songs the polish they need. And of course, the self-made cigar box guitar, which Friedel Geratsch plays impressively, cannot be missed.
Even though there are always rumors that the Geier are calling it a day and that this will be their last album, considering their high creative output, one can only smile wearily and be happy about another great new album from the Geier, which once again has that wonderful organic sound.
