GET THE CAT

In February 2020, the band "Get the Cat" recorded two concerts at Haus Eifgen. First, they performed electric, with Gero Körner as a guest on the Hammond B3, and the following Sunday morning, acoustically, with Gero Körner playing the grand piano. Due to the coronavirus-related standstill in cultural life, it took until September 21 for the CD to be released. On this CD, the band presents itself with the full diversity of its musical expression. In the acoustic atmosphere of a Sunday morning, the concert begins with double bass, grand piano, and acoustic guitar. The band demonstrates how subtly they can dress the blues in a jazzy guise. Melanie Bartsch's warm, soft voice presents the songs, all written by Till Brandt, with charm and ease. Jens Filser and Gero Körner shine with tasteful and virtuosic solos.

By the sixth song, we've arrived at the Saturday evening program. After the instrumental opener "Ride With Mule 5," the band sounds significantly more powerful. "The Village In The Valley" is a song about the venerable Village blues club in the Obermühltal valley, performed by Melanie Bartsch and Jens as a vocal duet. As the song progresses, Jens Filser demonstrates that he's not only a fantastic guitarist, but also a soulful, emotional singer. "Live at Haus Eifgen" is a highly diverse blues CD. The five musicians of "Get the Cat" not only demonstrate their individual talent, but also manage to create a unique, warm, powerful band sound. The Cats' groove is always on point, yet relaxed and easygoing. The CD closes with the wonderfully melancholic instrumental "Feeling Blue," whose organ and guitar solos are a delight to listen to. The production was made possible by a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
