Jens Gebel, the sound painter of jazz, about his quartet:
"The most important thing for me was to create a band with its own distinctive sound. I achieved this through the special selection of instruments—pandeiro, bass clarinet, and microbass—as well as the skilled playing of the instrumentalists. I wanted to create handcrafted music with minimal technical aids—the music should be very relaxed and pleasant to listen to, even for listeners unfamiliar with jazz."
The award-winning multi-instrumentalist Jens Gebel stands for innovation.
When you listen to the compositions on his debut album “Tunesday”, you are reminded for a moment of relaxed summer evenings or South American nights.
In Los Angeles, he discovered his love for Brazilian music while playing with many Brazilian musicians. The joyful and positive energy of Brazilian grooves and melodies inspired him to found the Jens Gebel Quartet. Catchy melodies and harmonic and rhythmic sophistication are very important to him. At the same time, his compositions have something that evokes the lightness of transatlantic sonic diversity of George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein.
In 2023, he recorded a debut CD with his ensemble. In addition to Jens Gabel on bass and band leader, the band includes Michael Arlt on guitar, Domenic Landolf on bass clarinet and saxophone, and Daniel Schay on pandeiro.
