OLIVER SCHEIDIES

On his second album, Oliver Scheidies takes us on the carousel we all spin on. Absurdly grotesque yet loving characters cavort there, as aptly and vividly sung in the songs "Berlin" and "Little Istanbul." The depths of depression on the eponymous title track "Karussell" as well as the heights of life, hinted at in "Hochzeitslied," are explored. The elixir of life, faith, love, hope, permeates all twelve songs on the album.

A poetic, yearning universe of sound unfolds in waves across the songs, some of which are ten minutes long. True to Mark Knopfler's motto "The song is the boss," Oliver Scheidies (vocals/guitar), Konstantin Schülke (guitar/drums/bass), and Benjamin Riesterer (grand piano/accordion/harmonium/Hammond organ/Rhodes/Wurlitzer) have given the twelve songs plenty of space to unfold.

Musically, the entire album exudes a profound serenity and inner peace. The 65-minute running time already hints at the jazzy character of this album, which features numerous improvisational elements.

The Karussell album was produced by Oliver Scheidies and Benjamin Riesterer in the TONPONY Studios.
