When classically trained guitarists record their debut album, the program often includes well-known works by famous composers such as Tarrega, Granados, Albeniz, Torroba, Bach or Villa-Lobos.
The young concert guitarist Aladdin Haddad, originally from Syria and now living in Bremen, chooses a completely different path. On "Roots," he presents fresh, unconventional sounds that express the essence and stylistically move between flamenco and crossover. He interprets pieces by flamenco guitarists Gerardo Núñez, Gallardo Del Rey, and Vicente Amigo with great sensitivity and technical finesse.
He also dares to include Stanley Myers' sentimental Cavatina and the technically and musically challenging pieces by Thomas Fellow in this extraordinary compilation. In doing so, he not only demonstrates courage and artistic independence, but also showcases an impressive range of expressive abilities and his guitar skill.
