The repertoire of the JOBIM Sessions is remarkable: 14 popular and well-known songs by Brazilian composer Tom Jobim – interpreted not in the usual bossa nova sound, but creatively and fearlessly placed in new musical contexts, completely rearranged, partially distorted, and abstracted in time signature, groove, melody, and harmonic progression. "We wanted to respectfully deconstruct Jobim's music and rearrange it in surprising ways, at a high technical and artistic level, yet still accessible to a broad audience," says Andreas Schulz. The spectrum ranges from the sparse 'Favela' with steel strings, dobro, and udu to the densely arranged and, at over 8 minutes, arguably the most ambitious song, 'Demais'. Even songs like the world-famous 'Girl from Ipanema' receive an exciting reinterpretation, where the original title is only recognized after just under 2 minutes of playing time. Other notable tracks include 'Agua De Beber' as a funk shuffle, 'Once I Loved' in the Americana sound, 'Chega De Saudade' with hints of Tango Nuevo or 'How Insensitive' with drum loops in a chillout ambience.
