'Alternative ProgPop' is what the members of the band BB4D call their musical style. They don't feel they belong to any of the countless stylistic categories, so they coined a new term for their music.
The band's name stands for 'Best Before Death,' as it consists of experienced musicians who have experienced and shaped many eras of rock music history. Their music draws influences from '70s art and prog rock, the clear and catchy hooks and melodies of the '80s, the groove and power of the '90s, and, last but not least, the diversity, danceability, and sound aesthetic of the 21st century.
Their classic lineup of two virtuoso rock guitars, a powerful, groovy bass, powerful yet delicate drums, and expressive, distinctive vocals is complemented by the electric violin and electric harp, instruments rather unusual for this genre. And, no, this isn't Celtic folk rock!
These two instruments are played alongside the tasteful keyboard sounds of the originator, founder, songwriter, and mastermind of this idiosyncratic band. He is also responsible for the sometimes unsettling yet harmonious atmospheres that repeatedly enrich the songs. His lyrics, sometimes direct and to the point, sometimes convoluted and full of poetry, are a far cry from the usual pop prose. Yet they always tell of people and their very different stories.
Last but not least, the sound engineer is an integral part of the group. He is responsible for the highly transparent, yet always powerful sound of the band's live concerts, as well as for the convincing, modern sound aesthetic of their recordings.
BB4D is a collective that thrives on both large open-air festivals and small clubs. The group's current album, "Sanatorium," once again showcases the wide range and catchy quality of their songs. It also proves that the band is far from past its expiration date:
