We are born, stay on this earth for a while, and then leave again. Yet every life is so individual—a treasure trove of events and experiences. In the polyphonic folk songs of his new album "Vanish Like a Cloud in Sunlight," Daniel Green and his band combine notes of hope and experiences of grief, creating moments for empathy, self-reflection, and courage. Author Nina Dobrot will read her short story "A Real Family," which explores life and its many facets of saying goodbye.
The result is a moving evening in which texts and sounds give each other space, swing back and forth, and tell of life, existence, love, and letting go…
Nina Dobrot, born in 76, is an author, cultural manager, and literary organizer living with her family in Hamburg. She is part of the reading group "Bei Hilde – Bread and Stories" and a concept developer for various events and reading series (Word Picnic in the Park, Literakula, Word Picnic – the Outdoor Reading Festival, "Bei Hilde – Bread and Stories" reading group, Kulturdusche, GutsKultur). She also develops and realizes concepts for musical readings together with musicians.
The Daniel Green Band sings the first chord. The guitar joins in, its warm melancholy reminiscent of Cat Stevens, and after a few bars, the song takes flight. The musicians stand in a circle around a microphone, their mouthpiece to the world. Melodies, strangely new yet familiar. Folk songs that create a connection between heaven and earth, between yesterday and tomorrow, performed by musicians who shine with their company and enjoy their togetherness. They sing polyphonic ballads, singer-songwriter and bluegrass songs about youth and old age, about laughter and tears, beginnings and ends. At times the songs sound almost like folky gospels or are reminiscent of the songwriting of James Taylor.
