This CD demonstrates the wide range of music that Dave Peabody and Regina Mudrich can offer as an accomplished duo. Gems like "Cold Iron Bed" have been virtually forgotten. Without a jug, but with plenty of innovation, the duo, with the help of Tim Penn on piano, replaces the jug with various seat cushions positioned in the grand piano. The result is an old blues in a new guise – atmospheric and clever.
John Lee Hooker played only a few recordings with piano, and none with violin. This doesn't bother the duo at all. Even on "Careless Love," you can sense that Peabody and Mudrich care little about role models, are unwilling to copy, and rather appreciate the old recordings without reproducing them. They breathe new life into the songs. Thus, this old blues has become perhaps the most heartfelt, most intimate piece on the CD.
Whether it's classics like "After You've Gone" or musical oddities like the Mississippi Sheiks' instrumental "That's It!", the probably fastest recording of "Everybody Loves My Baby", the gypsy-infused "Some Of These Days", the almost sparse "Delta Bound", which thereby acquires an incredible fragility, or the three songs penned by Peabody, "Picture The Blues", "Standing On The Highway" and "Please Don't Tell Me You Love Me" - this album is comparable to a bouquet of wildflowers - wild, multi-coloured and full of life.
