David Lübke's "Fahrender Sänger" is an extraordinary album full of simple beauty. During the pandemic, Lübke caused a sensation as a "songwriter on the road": He traveled across Germany, singing for people on their doorsteps. What began as a creative response to the canceled concerts turned into a promising journey that brought the singer a nationwide audience and brought him into conversation with the local community.
Along the way, he collected folk songs, which his unexpected hosts sang for him around the campfire or at dinner. The 27-year-old has now immortalized some of these songs on his new album.
The twelve tracks were arranged by a brilliantly staffed folk band (Jens Kommnick: guitar, Moritz Brümmer: cello, Filip Sommer, viola/mandolin, Jörg Fröse: concertina), which Lübke completes with his characteristic voice.
