One year after their last album “I Could Sense A Tragedy”, dAVOS present their tenth release, an EP with three new songs and five remixes or alternative versions.
The title is fitting for the season: "My Pleasure Garden" – but that's all the idyllic and romanticism this recording has to offer. In 2014, dAVOS once again bask in their typically somber mood, which Eric Nelson's clear vocals only manage to evoke on the title track, "My Pleasure Garden." The second track, "The Run," a melancholic synth-wave song, is about farewell and longing, but is surpassed in desolation by the following track, "Loving Man," an autobiographical song dedicated not to a lover but to an abusive father.
The fourth song—like the following new versions of old hits—should be familiar to fans, as it was released on the album's vinyl pressing in 2013. The Nine Circles remix of "Shatter" deserves special mention as a particularly successful remix, distinguishing itself from the original with its particularly catchy loops.
In short: Even after ten years, dAVOS has lost none of its enthusiasm and innovation.
