Dias Karimov was born in Ufa, Russia, in 1983. He comes from a family rich in musical tradition and has been playing the piano since the age of six. His father, the pianist and composer Airat Karimov, was Dias's classical music teacher during his childhood and taught him his first steps in improvisation.
In 1990, Dias began his studies at a music high school in the subject of "classical piano," which he graduated with honors in 2001. In 2005, Dias graduated as a concert pianist from the Ufa Academy, where he shortly thereafter accepted an offer to work as a music teacher.
Dias's love of jazz and improvisation brought him to Weimar in 2008, where he studied jazz piano at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He then devoted his talents to various crossover projects. He currently works as a lecturer at the music academies in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt am Main. He also performs solo concerts and performs with various other musicians from different styles.
Dias's new album, "ImPuls," is dedicated to his father, Airat Karimov. This CD features pieces by Airat Karimov and Elmer Szentirmay, arrangements of jazz standards, and his own compositions. On this album, Dias Karimov plays a century-old Schiedmayer piano.
