For his 80th birthday, he's really letting it rip with a new song: "You give me courage (in this time)" is a tribute to his audience, who always stood by him during the toughest times "in the fight against the liars" ("always hurry, don't waste time, eager for wicked killer lines") and who were "more than just an audience" even in tougher times. Shortly after its advance internet release, the song entered various charts (e.g., airplay charts and reached number 1 on the NDR 1 Lower Saxony charts).
The chorus is catchy and meant to encourage all those who, like Dieter Hallervorden, don't want to go along with all the newspaper hoaxes, the war-mongering reporting, and every raison d'état ("You have to be anti-American, don't you see that?") and who stand up against the mainstream. The lyrics were co-written by Dieter Hallervorden, Isaak Herzog, and Johannes Hallervorden, who is also often sharp-tongued on Facebook. The music is by the Thuringian musicians of the rock band EMMA, who, like Hallervorden, didn't have much to laugh about in the GDR. Which isn't the same for this song.
