When you hear the name Friedel Geratsch, many people think of the Neue Deutsche Welle and fun songs that, despite everything, always had a deeper message.
Here, on his first solo album—after all, he's been playing guitar since 1964—the Ruhrpott native proves he's more complex and thoughtful. This isn't a "Yeah, that's funny" record; the songs have to be listened to in peace; it's not something you can stream while you listen. We're proud to be able to present this record to the (music) world together with Friedel. This is 100% Geratsch.
"I am in a place between shadow and light" isn't just a line in the song, but a clear description of the place. Sweet melancholy meets powerful, pounding rhythms, captivating from the first note to the last. All played on four-string cigar box guitars built by Friedel himself.
Music couldn't be more honest and earthy. And always remember, live every moment consciously, "because you can't take the milk out of your coffee."
