FUOST & Ralf-Peter Fuchs - Ghosts of Odd Quatro (12inch Vinyl-Album)
GHOSTS OF ODD QUATRO is a collaboration between the Tübingen trio FUOST and the established jazz saxophonist RALF-PETER FUCHS from Witten. The project can be seen as a variation of "Fusion" It can be understood as a blend of rock and jazz that merges into a homogeneous sound far exceeding the sum of its parts. Here, intricately spun post-rock soundscapes converge; raw and grinding stoner riffs; a bass that oscillates between filigree and raw, primal force, yet remains melodic; a drum kit deeply rooted in jazz, imbuing every beat and every bar with expression; and finally, a saxophone that explores the full spectrum from unbridled improvisation and embracing harmonies to its function as a vocal part.
The resulting music is a sonic kaleidoscope that reveals new details with each listen. All the instruments take center stage and recede into the background, but like the four musicians behind them, each possesses its own individual character, which is not flattened but rather celebrated within the overall sound. Although no human voices are heard on the album, GHOSTS OF ODD QUATRO tells countless stories. - Stories that even the musicians can only guess at, and whose endings remain open.
All the songs were recorded live by FUOST together in their Tübingen studio and later augmented by Ralf-Peter Fuchs' saxophone and individual guitar parts. The deliberately imperfect, sometimes harsh quality is part of the sound concept and represents the primacy of the organic.
GHOSTS OF ODD QUATRO was mixed and mastered by the US East CoastStudios “Dead Air” and “Loud Sun”. The album artwork was designed by photographer Jakob Schnetz with the assistance of artist Pamela Mannke-Gardecki.
