The Franconian lutenist Adam Falckenhagen (1697 to 1754) never published new pieces again after his "First Dozen Edifying Sacred Songs" was printed. Years before his death, he retired from his position as court lutenist to Margravine Wilhelmine of Bayreuth.
His final work is stylistically unique—not only within his own oeuvre, but also within lute music as a whole. On her new album, "Cathedral Music," Gabriele Janneck presents a complete recording of this volume—one of the few, if not the only one to date. Gabriele has been fascinated by these chorale arrangements and their compelling variations for years.
But she has also selected wonderful music for the rest of the album: After having already recorded a sonata by Esaias Reusner the Younger for her previous album, "Stirring with the Silver Tones...", she has now recorded seven of his chorale arrangements. Six chorales for Renaissance lute by Reusner's father are also included. The album title, "Cathedral Music," comes from Thomas Mace's book "Musick's Monument" (1676).

From the bottom of my heart
Christ, our Lord, came to the Jordan
Out of deep distress I cry to you
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
O world, I must leave you
Keep us, Lord, by your word
Glory to God in the highest
Out of deep distress I cry to you
Christ, our Lord, came to the Jordan
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
May God be gracious to us
It is certainly time
I sincerely desire
