On their first joint album, lutenist Gabriele Janneck-Detring and guitarist Martin G. Günkel play instruments with a total of 25 strings. A ten-string Renaissance lute, an instrument with nine double strings and one single string, is featured. Added to this are the six strings of the guitar. Blues and jazz, as well as Renaissance and Baroque music – these and other influences combine to create Gabriele and Martin's unique music.
One time, while playing together spontaneously, they found the harmony of their instruments so appealing that they wanted to do more with it. In just a few minutes, they had compiled material for a concert program. Renaissance pieces like the Passamezzo antico and the Passacaglia were obvious choices, as they were widely used improvisational bases for musicians and thus served a similar function to the twelve-bar blues pattern today. The sequence of Johann Pachelbel's Canon has found its way into popular music, and the duo has also used it. They also performed pieces by Martin and original Renaissance literature.
