"Gross National Product," "Visit Europe (As Long as It's Still Standing)," "Pure Lust for Life"... who doesn't fondly remember the big hits of Geier Sturzflug? Even today, more than thirty years after their huge successes, the songs still represent a way of life and the New German Wave. These songs can be heard at every decent 80s party, inviting everyone to sing along and rock out.
But Geier Sturzflug has always had more to offer than simple party songs. Deep lyrics, with occasional hints of melancholy, were one of the key characteristics of their songs. The lyrics are subtle and sometimes sharp-tongued, usually in tune with the times, yet they all contain their own unique sense of humor, never becoming accusatory or even seeming arrogant.
What began in Bochum in 1979 now finds a new home in "Mehr Davon (Das Jubiläumsalbum)" to mark their 40th anniversary. The NDW icons offer old songs paired with new material here, with a special focus on the hits, which have now been given a new facet in fantastic unplugged versions. Only in these wonderful acoustic versions does it become clear that the songs have been allowed to mature gracefully and seem tailor-made for this format. Alongside these tracks are songs that you haven't heard in a long time, some of which may even lead to a completely new discovery of Geier Sturzflug, as completely new material has also made its way onto the 20-song cross-section.
This proves that even today, they still create a great atmosphere across generations with their feel-good songs. In the age of downloads and streaming, Obergeier Friedel Geratsch and the band deliberately opted for a CD, giving fans something tangible to touch and thus feeling closer to the band and their music. After all, 40 years of Geier Sturzflug deserve a proper celebration, and what could be more fitting than a CD that conveys a sense of life and can thus be pulled off the shelf again and again?
