The tireless Friedel Geratsch still has so much music to write, play, sing, and, above all, hear. His last album has been out for a year, and now the next one is finished. Even though the release date falls on Friday the 2023th of January 13, the new Geier Sturzflug album "Trotzdem" will be released.
The band's lineup hasn't changed, and as on the previous album, they feature ska and reggae with a subtle touch of Southern blues. Friedel's homemade cigar box guitars—played skillfully, of course—make the songs unique. A Caribbean feel with wonderfully biting and time-critical lyrics. This proves once again that Friedel has his ears (and eyes) on the pulse of the times. He never loses his respect, setting a countertrend to the current verbal outbursts on (a)social media and social networks. One can only hope that this example will continue to flourish.
The album grooves at every turn, sounds wonderfully organic, and impressively continues the path that began over 40 years ago. With its predecessor, "In der großen Tradition der kleinen Haushaltswaren," there were rumors that it might be the last Geier album. But with "Trotzdem," the band sends a clear message against these speculations and simultaneously shows them the red card. Once a Geier, always a Geier. And because the band's biggest hit is now a full 40 years old, there's now a new recording of "Gross National Product." This promises almost 40 minutes of good cheer that you won't want to miss.
