Gordie Tentrees & Jaxon Haldane - Grit (12" Vinyl-Album)
Since Gordie Tentrees and Jaxon Haldane first came together to make music in 2014, they have played 548 concerts in eleven countries, including prestigious festivals such as Celtic Connections in Glasgow and the National Folk Festival in Canberra. Now they are releasing a special selection of songs as their joint debut album, "Grit."
"Grit" is a live album—how could it be otherwise?—and was recorded during five special shows in Western Canada by renowned engineer and producer Scott Franchuk (Corb Lund/CKUA). The impetus for a joint debut with a live album came from numerous concertgoers. Repeatedly, people expressed the desire to take the incredible atmosphere of the Gordie Tentrees & Jaxon Haldane shows home with them.
This is no coincidence: A live show combines ten instruments – banjo, dobro, cigar box guitars, musical saw, acoustic guitar, stomp box, harmonica, snare, and mandolin – along with stunning vocal harmonies and masterful storytelling. The combined experience of years of touring and a combined 15 albums with other band projects also do their part to captivate the audience. Jaxon Haldane and Gordie Tentrees both grew up in the Canadian roots music scene, where legendary songwriters like the aforementioned Fred Eaglesmith and Willie P. Bennett had a profound influence on the artists' work, sometimes even taking on the role of mentor.
The album “Grit” has a lot in store for the listener: The first track “Armand” was inspired by the death of the Dutch protest singer of the same name while Gordie and Jaxon were on tour in the Netherlands.
The characters who dominate the songs on this positive album overcome the difficulties of their lives. All songs contain and promote grit (= courage), the best ingredient for overcoming obstacles!
