Stories about life with Alzheimer's ("Second Best Life"), with burnout ("In the Silence"), and after a heart attack ("Dr. Intensiv"), but also about normal madness ("My Lucky Day," "Quite Simple," "Everything from Life") or about sex in old age ("Super Sexy Oma"), combined with a musical spectrum from singer/songwriter, pop/rock, to tango, rumba, salsa, and slow fox, make Harald Pons's fourth solo CD, "Where Are We Going From Here," something special. Does it all fit together? – does it fit!
An album that stands out from the current German singer-songwriter and pop scene without losing its relevance. "Where will we end up when the bees stop flying?" The title track asks. "Dr. Intensiv" certainly has the potential to become the "thank you song of the year" for all medical departments.
But even Harald Pons can't quite manage without love songs. "Ich vermiss Dich" (I Miss You) and "Danke Einmal" (Thank You Again) focus on love and his relationship with his wife, although these are more about deep feelings than nights spent dancing. "That might be due to age," he explains laconicly. With "Du bist für mich mein Bernsteinzimmer" (You Are My Amber Room) and "Für Dich hätte ich das Taj Mahal baut" (I Would Have Built the Taj Mahal for You), Harald Pons has nevertheless managed to deliver a rather decent declaration of love. Having now gone quite gray, in "Kind mit grauen Haar" (Child with Gray Hair) he sings about the times of his "own great adventures," even if they only took place in his imagination. "Immer noch da" (Still Here) is also the anthem for the 56+ generation.
A total of 17 titles that offer deep insights and a broad view. Harald Pons has once again succeeded in writing texts that do without interchangeable phrases and bombastic images, that are concrete, go into detail, and deal with the truly important things in life.
So the crucial question from the title "Quite simple":
"Who cares about any teaching if digestion doesn't work?"
One can only hope that some radio presenters have the courage to surprise their listeners. "Life is a serious matter, so it's best not to take yourself too seriously, and especially not too important." That's the current mood.
