Jacob Fortyhands hail from Lohne, a small town between Bremen and Osnabrück. But with their distinctive vocal melodies and danceable indie pop, you'd probably expect these newcomers to hail from the north of England.
The five-person band delivers English-language songs that make you want to take road trips and enjoy balmy summer evenings—in short, their songs evoke a sense of longing and familiarity. Initially conceived as a project, Jacob Fortyhands was founded several years ago by Lukas (vocals & guitar), Carsten (drums), and Hendrik (guitar). When their bassist dropped out in 2017, Lukas' brother Jakob (bass) quickly became the new member, and "a project" became their band. Since 2019, Till (synths & keys) has completed the quintet.
They create a blend of introverted lyrics that offer space for reflection and catchy hooks that immediately stick in your head. At just in their early 20s, Jacob Fortyhands have created a sound that sounds both modern and creatively reflects their influences from '80s folk and pop rock, in the style of The Police or Genesis.
