Should rock 'n' roll really still be played in 2013? "Absolutely!" is the answer, given that it sounds as authentic and fresh as it does on this record. This record isn't chasing any trends, but rather a rousing homage to the idols of their own idols. Studio gimmicks were consistently avoided, and the recording was primarily live with two ambient microphones. Despite this, or perhaps precisely because of this, every single note is where it belongs, the guitar twangs like it did in the '2s, and you feel right at home with frontwoman Jenny Thrill when she confesses that she's totally messing up these "Sweet Nothings." Quickly flip the disc over - things get rougher here, with clean three-chord work and fabulous saxophone from Molly Duncan, who has also done the same for Tom Petty and the Eurythmics. Your feet are twitching and ready for the all-nighter. It's clear that this single was released for one crucial reason: love of the music and its roots.
