Johannes Lang, Josef Mücksch, Theresa Maria Romes - Dieser chilenische Sommer war süß... (Memorias de „El Cimarrón“ La Nueva Canción) (CD)
The lost work by Hans Werner Henze, with the unusual title "This Chilean summer was sweet...", has been recorded for the first time on this CD, without any changes to the original text. Johannes Lang followed the trail of the premiere group, the poet Rudij Bergmann, and the estate of HW Henze. After more than a year of research, the work was found and prepared. Among those contributing to this recording is Henze expert and Echo Klassik award winner Jürgen Ruck.
The songs of Violeta Parra and Victor Jara are about oppression, love, and the desire to make the world a better place. They were also the founders of the "Nueva Canción" movement in the 1950s and 60s, which drew attention to the injustices faced by indigenous peoples and their descendants in South America. Victor Jara was arrested, tortured, and ultimately murdered in Chile after the Pinochet coup. A year later, a memorial concert was held in his honor, for which HW Henze wrote "Chilenischer Sommer." Johannes Lang brings together a whole host of young, top-class musicians, including Theresa Maria Romes and Adrian Lieb, to give his interpretations of this intense music with quiet authenticity. Particularly noteworthy are the delicately crafted arrangements, which convey so much warmth and melancholy in their simplicity.
Memorias de "El Cimarrón" by Hans Werner Henze tells the story of the runaway slave Esteban Montejo Pate. He recounts the terrible conditions in Cuba at that time, how he escaped, and witnessed the liberation of the slaves. Holger Klemt lends his charismatic, distinctive voice to the protagonists. Alongside Johannes Lang, the award-winning guitarist Josef Mükisch takes on a part. The guitar duo knows how to play together at the highest level and captures Henze's musical language in their own unique way. They are expressive, powerful, flexible, and at times even witty.
