Jorinde Jelen's music transports you directly to the sea, to a moonlit beach, and into the midst of a storm. The 11 songs blend her own words with those of great German poets, jazz with pop elements, and tenderness with powerful impulses. Jorinde Jelen's music wasn't conceived on a producer's drawing board. The singer relies entirely on her own musical instincts and those of her long-time collaborators. The songs are almost exclusively her own, and they are arranged collaboratively, mostly with second guitarist Bastian Ruppert. "The lyrics are the core from which the music grows," says Jorinde Jelen. She was not only inspired by the great masters of German poetry, but also set poems by Rainer Maria Rilke and Joseph von Eichendorff to music for the new album.
