The Kid Colling Cartel's debut album tells of Kid Colling's personal experiences: "In the Devil's Court" is a cry of revolt, a liberation from the clutches of the devil, a symbol of the decadence of our society with all its emotions and feelings: the good, the bad, the fear, the hope, the regret... We've all been there before. It's that moment when you know: "Something has to change!" The blues is about these aberrations, the excesses, and the corruption. Music helps us free ourselves from our demons.
With this album, the band clearly takes a new direction, more blues-rock, inspired by artists like Gary Clark Jr., Tedeschi Trucks Band, and The Allman Brothers Band. The album oscillates between blues phrases and rock guitar, and is characterized by a groovy rhythm and the use of a Hammond B3 organ, giving it a distinctive sound.
