These now historic recordings were made 35 years ago in Bremen, in 1989. Our quartet was on a long, extensive tour at the time.
My quartet included Argentinian trumpeter Gustavo Bergalli, Belgian bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, and Austrian drummer Mario Gonzi. We had known each other for some time and had worked together in various ensembles, including with Claudio Roditi, Bobby Watson, and Joe Henderson.
This concert was accidentally videotaped by the promoter at the time. I ignored the video for many years. One day, I watched the recording and was pleasantly surprised by the band's joy in playing, their energy, their spirit, and their emotion. After experiencing this concert again, I was inspired and inspired to release these recordings. It took about 15 years(!) before I decided to release parts of the concert on CD. Since the concert was recorded using only a video recorder microphone, and technological developments at the time weren't as advanced as they are today, not much could be done to the original recording. For example, the volume ratios between the individual instruments couldn't be changed. However, the background noise was eliminated and the overall sound improved.
A big thank you goes to my friend and colleague Sven Faller, who captured the best of this recording.
