The debut of the group LARÚN caused a stir in the Irish folk scene both at home and abroad. This is hardly surprising, given that the band kept its formation a secret until the release of its first video in January 2018. Within a few days, the elaborately produced music videos had surpassed the ten-thousand-view mark. This response is perhaps unsurprising given the ensemble's top-class lineup. The band may currently be being touted by the trade press as the most exciting newcomer band of the year, but the individual musicians also already boast an impressive portfolio. They hail from ensembles such as Trasnú, Emerald, Dán, Crosswind, and Texu, which may explain the media attention.
LARÚN is also one of the most international bands to have taken the stage in recent years; and in times of ever-denser global networking, what could unite more strongly than a shared passion – in this case, a love for the multi-colored traditional music of Ireland. LARÚN features six musicians from four different nations on stage – France, Spain, Germany, and the USA. LARÚN doesn't just play Irish music, LARÚN lives Irish music! And so most of the band members have dedicated their careers to this music and are sought-after teachers, as well as stage and studio musicians both at home and abroad. What a joy to listen to this band. Rarely in this country has technical perfection met musical understanding and gripping rhythms in this form. The sextet demonstrates virtuosity on fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, piano, and guitar. LARÚN is absolutely festival-ready and gets the audience on their feet from the very first note – energetic, passionate, fast-paced, and danceable, without ever seeming rushed. The six-piece is complemented by multifaceted vocals that captivate the listener.
LARÚN creates a shimmering world full of rhythms, harmonies, and sound poems. A firework of Irish sounds that has a great future ahead of it.
