When the deep, shimmering black voice of white blues singer Linda Schmelzer resounds, it leaves a profound mark. Her powerful blues voice, sometimes loudly roaring or softly ingratiating, sometimes cheerful or sadly lamenting, gets under your skin. Bubbling from deep within her soul, she touches and moves her listeners. The organizer of the legendary Nuremberg blues festival “Blues will eat” once aptly described her: “Linda Schmelzer’s voice must still evoke pleasant feelings even when she orders someone to take the trash down.” For 20 years she interpreted the enormous repertoire of Jimi Hendrix on many stages in Germany and toured with her Omni-Blues Band for just as long, until the death of her long-time blues guitarist Mike Viertel abruptly tore her away from live performances.
