After almost eight years, Little Steve & the Big Beat return with their new album *Circles* – deeper, more personal, and more powerful than ever before. The follow-up to *Another Man* (2016) explores new musical and thematic ground. Singer and guitarist Steven van der Nat describes the album as strongly influenced by his own experiences: "Every song reflects my life and my emotions." For the first time, he also addresses political themes.
The title track, "Circles," addresses the destructive consequences of self-centered behavior for humanity and our planet. The album features 11 original compositions, 10 of which were written by Steven van der Nat. The unmistakable Little Steve & the Big Beat sound—a rousing blend of blues and rhythm & blues—remains intact, but with a fresh, modern twist. Each track has its own mood and offers a diverse musical journey, from slow blues ballads to energetic R&B numbers.
*Circles* features several top-notch guest musicians, including American singer Kat Riggins (backing vocals on "Only Got Eyes For You"), Pascal Haverkate (trumpet on "Circles"), and Bas Janssen (keyboards on "99 LBS," "The Shame Is On You," and "Tired Of Moaning"). The album was recorded in a charming analog studio that bassist Bird Stevens set up in an old barn.
This blend of vintage equipment and modern production gives *Circles* a unique sound – warm, authentic, and timeless. Little Steve & the Big Beat have built a strong reputation as a live band in recent years, with performances at prestigious festivals such as Moulin Blues, Zwarte Cross, and the Malta Blues Festival. *Circles* builds on this success and showcases the band at their best.
