First Solo Album - Solo stands for Solo Violin on an album where Powerful Voices tell Moving Stories in Beautiful Songs
She studied classical music – violin. Then came her first folk band, which was a natural choice for the instrument. However, she was always drawn to songwriters with distinctive voices. With them she toured the clubs and pubs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin and climbed the theater stage, one highlight being the Scotland tour sponsored by the Goethe Institute. Later, the harder pace of rock bands changed Maike's violin style. Acoustic violin sounds were joined by distortion, octaver, tremolo and delay. She then took these with her to the big festival stages, supporting Status Quo, Uriah Heep, Nik Kershaw and together with musicians such as Mike Keneally and Scott Carter Thunes at the Zappanale in Bad Doberan. Also formative was the encounter and collaboration with “City” violinist Joro Gogow.
After having contributed to numerous album productions by her fellow singers, Maike now presents her debut solo album, "Something New," featuring a mix of her own songs and those of fellow bands and songwriters, stylistically diverse in sound and genre. Maike's solo violin (or viola) is the common thread running through this album. The songs were written over a period of two years and recorded with more than 2 musicians in various studios. 30 singers, including Timezone colleagues Silvana Mehnert and Karl Neukauf, perform brilliantly in English and German. Longing for love, online and other addictions, and the political and social issues of our time are addressed and presented in a tangible, touching, lyrical, loving, and at times sharply ironic way - in complex arrangements in folk-rock, rock-pop, classical, and ultimately electronic styles.
