Dark as Night / Red as Love
A one-man full band that loves the slide guitar and has perfected the space organ - impressive.
With his distinctive deep voice, Schüller acts as a crooner and sings through all facets of existence, sometimes hot, sometimes wet, always passionate.
Support comes from sideman HB Hövelmann, who not only shines with cool guitar solos.
The album opens with furious rock songs. The middle section takes a breather. It becomes as dark as night. Towards the end, daylight slowly creeps through. Love is a major theme. But the artist's strangeness, his godlessness, and his abhorrence of right-wing tendencies are also explored extensively. The lyrics are of great importance to Schüller. He fights with himself over every word – want an example?
"I don't take anything seriously because I don't want to. Grandiose is often not good enough. I never find myself."
With the 2017 album "Affentanz," Schüller played more than 60 shows in a duo with HB Hövelmann, six of them in the USA. He opened for the Joseph Parsons Band on a tour, followed by a three-week tour with Mare Wakefield from Nashville and Jay Ottaway from Boston.
The last album “Wodka Wodka Superstar” was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award and was in the Liedermacher best list for months.
After Corona put a stop to everyone's plans, Schüller and his friend Hövelmann still toured extensively for the Wodka album.
And so the new album “Dunkel:Rot” will again be presented extensively live.
