With "Alchimiste," Mélinée creates her third album, characterized by Afro-pop-rock sounds. It features the balafon, which was already present on her second album, "Héroïne," along with the ngoni (small African kora), the djembe, and various percussion instruments.
Jonathan Bratoëff, guitarist, composer, arranger, sound engineer, and producer, gives the album a world music orientation. Accordion and keyboard blend with African rhythms; rock pieces meet, true to Mélinée's style, intimate chansons. This time, the singer speaks less about love. The men present in her chansons are more portraits of recognition, sometimes tender, sometimes satirical, less declarations of love in the true sense. Mélinée takes us to different countries by addressing places that have shaped or fascinated her. She reveals her innermost being and becomes the "alchemist" of a certain unease. She speaks of the difficult situation of the lover, speaks with humor and lightness of addiction to cigarettes, or composes an ode to the sun, so lacking in Berlin winters. This third album, like the previous ones, gives us a glimpse into the innermost being of a young woman whose chansons have universal significance. The Afro-pop-rock-style chansons give new impetus to the singer's musical range, allowing us to travel – amidst words and rhythms.
