Mélinée - Berline (CD)
Her songs are rooted in "L'Amour avec un grand Aïe" (Love with a Great Sorrow), the disappointed, impossible, or only dreamed-of loves that become songs. She herself falters in the midst of all this, losing her feathers and, in doing so, unraveling her own, touched by those she calls her "musots" ("Masculine form of the muse, the delicacy of my words").
At the Goethe-Institut in Toulouse, she continued acting in theater, delving into Werther's language, and occasionally making short visits to the other side of the Rhine, where her fascination with Berlin grew ever stronger. In 2010, she landed there and found herself in a love story. "Because I met the people from Tacheles—das—and played with new musicians, I was able to cross that threshold; I finally dared to leave Toulouse. I've never regretted it; it was a dream come true, and with it a completely different and exciting life began, far away from the demons of my hometown... My love for Berlin remains untouched, even though the Tacheles era, which I sometimes long for, no longer exists, and the city's future worries me. This city calms me, inspires me, develops me...
When I'm away from her, I miss her like others miss a man; for me, it's the city of my life!" Berlin's history and its places, its urban poetry and its unsettling future inspire the singer to write moving verses. Mélinée reveals her doubts and her whims, like many different landscapes of the emotional state, speaks about her addictions to love, her encounter with an "Astronhomme" or "AstronoMann," or paints a striking picture of tango dancers... She pays homage to her accordion or the deported Jew Etty Hillesum, or tells us about the difficult profession of acting... Her lyrics are dense and well-crafted, at once personal and poetic, with universal power. They contain hope and nostalgia, but also subtle wit and humor, as a fitting counterpoint to melancholy. All of this together creates this "melancomic" world that is entirely her own. Harnessed to her accordion, she gained her first experience on several Toulouse stages with her accomplice Maxime Dupuis on cello. Together they won third place at the Prix Nougaro in May 2010.
