Mina Richman - Past 25 (CD)
Mina Richman is back with a loud, honest, and musically diverse statement. On March 28, the queer German-Iranian will release her new EP "Past 25" on the Münster-based Ladies&Ladys label (Kapa Tult). With her unmistakable voice and astute observations about life after the magical 25-year mark, she follows up on her debut album "Grown Up," which also featured producer Tobias Siebert (Juli, Enno Bunger) and her band, Alexander Mau (bass), Friedrich Schnorr von Carolsfeld (guitar), and Leon Brames (drums).
Age as a privilege, not as an enemy
The title track, "Past 25," ironically criticizes the pervasive youth obsession our society celebrates with Botox and anti-aging creams, emphasizing that aging is a privilege. Instead, Richman celebrates the beauty and dignity that come with each new phase of life. Her message is clear: aging should be embraced, not fought.
An EP as diverse as life itself
Musically, Mina Richman moves confidently between indie pop, soul, and blues, even venturing into funk and disco territory with the track "Work." The singles she has already released impressively demonstrate her musical diversity: With "ADHD," Mina Richman has created a powerful indie anthem that openly celebrates life as a neurodivergent person. With humor and self-confidence, she sings about misplaced keys, laundry that has been washed multiple times but never hung up—and the creative power that ADHD can bring. "If you ask me, it's not a disease and I wouldn't trade it, because it makes me so creative!" On the other hand, Mina Richman takes a more contemplative approach with "Just as a Friend." The flowing indie pop sound captures the bittersweet feeling when infatuation turns into friendship—a song for those moments when decisions are final. "Is it true and in another life I would be yours?" – a question that hovers between melancholy and acceptance.
From indie hope to celebrated stage presence
Mina Richman has long since established herself as one of the most exciting voices on the German indie scene. After two German tours, support shows for Alice Merton and Christina Stürmer, and being named "Outstanding Artist" at the PopNRW Awards, she's setting new standards in 2024. Recently, she performed "Schrei nach Liebe" with Bela B (Die Ärzte) at a large Berlin anti-right rally. In April and May, Mina Richman will embark on another headline tour through 18 cities. With "Past 25," she proves that her voice is not only distinctive but also unmistakable.
