Mo Klé, aka René Grünenfelder, writes songs and sings them. This makes him a singer-songwriter, a songwriter. He writes them, usually at night, always with a guitar on his knees and a pen in his hand. The Swiss musician grew up with his parents' love of the folk and pop music of the 60s and 70s. Nevertheless, as a teenager, he was drawn to punk. He cut his teeth in a band there for 10 years and gained stage experience. Today, he strikes a much calmer tone, inspired by the old folk singers. His DIY approach and his desire to make people think with his lyrics have remained.
While some keep diaries to record their thoughts, Mo Klé writes songs. He tells his stories with English or German lyrics and sets them to music with guitar and harmonica. Songwriting helps him not to take himself and everything around him too seriously. Over the years, he has created a lot of songs. He will release six of them on his debut EP "Fighter In The Sky" on January 25, 2019. The slow estrangement between friends, the lack of understanding about his German grandfather, who lost his youth to World War II and yet always longed for those times to return, and inner struggles with himself are themes that are reflected on the EP. Of course, love is also included.
The single "Mercenary" will be released on November 16, 2018. The song is carried by a sweetly sad cello melody and captures the feeling of wasting one's life for the ideals of others.
The recordings were made at Jo Eberhard's Casablanca Recording Studios in Winterthur. Jo Eberhard was once Mo Klé's guitar teacher. The two share a passion for guitar playing and great songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Hannes Wader. Mo Klé's vocals, harmonica, and guitar tracks were at the center of the recording process. Atmosphere, not perfection, was the priority. Drums (Kevin Akermann), bass (Jo Eberhard), cello (Isabel Gehweiler), and saxophone (Nicola Holenstein) were arranged and recorded around the takes.

1. Mercenary
