"I don't know of any tin whistle album by a German musician that has made it into the world-famous IRISH MUSIC MAGAZINE (Dublin) and IRISH TRADITIONAL MUSIC ARCHIVE (Dublin). That's a very special honor, and I'm very proud of it," says Olaf Sickmann about his musical work. His new album New Irish Tin Whistle Tunes 2 is a MUST-HAVE for every ambitious/budding whistler and Irish tin whistle lover! As with the previous album, buyers should be inspired—in addition to the pure listening pleasure—to create something of their own! Therefore, the CD * also includes the original accompanying guitars in MP3 format (the tin whistle is muted) as well as a music book in PDF format containing all the chords, notes, and background information for the 10 pieces. "That's how you sell CDs in the age of streaming services! Congratulations!" writes one satisfied Amazon customer. IRISH MUSIC MAGAZINE is equally impressed.: “A whistle player from Germany, and an album of new tunes, not so unusual but the combination is intriguing, especially as Sickmann presents this as a learning tool and tunebook as much as a listening album ... the promise of play-along MP3s and a PDF tunebook should make this worth a look for any aspiring whistler.”
After “Original Tin Whistle Session Tunes” (2012), “Whistle Man” (2014) and “New Irish Tin Whistle Tunes” (2020), Olaf Sickmann brings New Irish Tin Whistle Tunes 2 (2021) is his fourth tin whistle album and his thirteenth solo album overall. His vision of new Irish tin whistle music is consistently continued and developed further here. A single tin whistle in the standard key of D major was used, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar. In every note, in each of his compositions, one senses his enthusiasm and passion for this instrument, and how deeply he must have engaged with Irish instrumental music, especially session music, as well as with many well-known and unknown tin whistle players. New Irish Tin Whistle Tunes 2 Dreamy melodies and superb technique combine with a certain casualness and naturalness. He adds subtle ornamentation and variations almost imperceptibly, without ever disrupting the flow of the melody. His playing style is "like a bird chirping."
Over the past 20 years, German composer, guitarist, and tin whistle player Olaf Sickmann has carved out his own niche with timelessly beautiful instrumental music. His works are regularly played on radio and television (including WDR, NDR, MDR, SWR, SR, BR, HR), are very popular in teaching, and are increasingly being used for corporate promotional purposes. The cultural journal WILD MAGAZINE now calls him "one of the most important musical representatives of the tin whistle."
