Pea and the Pees are five honky-tonks who combine the virtues of town and country. One member of the band lives in seclusion in the Palatinate mountains, cut off from electricity and running water, while the rest of the Pees live in the three-million-strong metropolis of Karlsruhe – and it's palpable. Rough urban rock 'n' roll and folky hillbilly rhythms blend seamlessly.
Imagine a very young Dolly Parton and a wild, boisterous crowd around her, belting out dry Morricone sounds and a strong punk snottiness and simplicity. The whole thing is highly danceable and surprisingly catchy. It's spiced up with harmonica, cowbells, melodica, accordion, Jew's harp, and rattles.
It's music that tickles your legs, makes you want to drink and cheer. Others say they hear a cross between the Talking Heads, the Monkees, and the countryfied Velvet Underground, which completely baffles the band... Pea and the Pees are the newest addition to the Bavarian off-label record stable, which has also churned out wonderful records by The Dad Horse Experience and DM BOB. Experience dirty soles and unbridled saliva.
