With Peter Autschbach and Ralf Illenberger, two masters of their craft have found each other, approaching music intuitively, spontaneously, and harmoniously. The listener has the impression of a single, large, multi-stringed guitar, where it seems irrelevant which of the two is playing what. Following the successful albums "No Boundaries" (2012) and "One Mind" (2014), the two guitarists will present their new album "Zero Gravity" in autumn 2017. The ideas for the new work were communicated between the two across the pond, as Autschbach lives in Germany and Illenberger in Arizona. The eight brand-new pieces, recorded in Peter's living room studio in September 2017, demonstrate how intensive and fruitful the collaboration between the two guitarists is.
Both compositionally and sonically, the music on "Zero Gravity" reveals the distinctive duo style that distinguishes Peter Autschbach and Ralf Illenberger even more clearly than on their previous albums. Here, the most diverse guitar types (12-string, octave guitar, baritone guitar, and six-string acoustic guitar) sound in perfect harmony. Peter Autschbach and Ralf Illenberger impressively demonstrate how intense and exciting a musical dialogue between two equal partners can be.
"They don't play pop, even if their melodies are catchy. They don't play jazz, even if a large part of their music is improvised. They don't play blues, even if their music has depth and soul. And they don't play folk, even if the foundation of their work is firmly anchored in tradition. What the guitar duo Autschbach and Illenberger plays sounds like completely original music, despite all the foreign inspirations and accumulated experiences. As robust as it is sensitive; virtuosic, without succumbing to the madness of speed; contemporary, but at the same time timeless. Their playing has something of the breath of great and expansive landscapes.
