"Dylan in German is absolutely impossible!" – "It works!" Translating Bob Dylan's Nobel Prize-winning poetry is considered extremely difficult – some even consider an adequate translation into German impossible. Piet van Dyke tried nonetheless, not only translating but also recording it. The CD "Kassandra" charmingly intersperses his own pieces with Dylan's well-known masterpieces. More specifically, the CD features nine "genuine" Dylan pieces and two songs by Piet van Dyke – including the title track, "Kassandra." These Dylan songs aren't mere transcriptions or slavish imitations; they're entirely original interpretations, adaptations, and reworkings. These long-familiar songs thus take on new meaning: It's not just a homage to Dylan, bringing together pieces from all his creative periods; it's above all an invitation to delve into Dylan's work. With his mature and distinctive voice full of character, Piet van Dyke presents a broad musical spectrum at a high linguistic level, for which the category of singer/songwriter is too narrow. Various musical styles are represented, from folk to jazz to rock. In short: Here is a new voice emerging that is more than worth hearing. Kasandra was recorded in 2017 at Blackbird Studio Berlin.
