Dortmund-based David Kleinekottmann's "Present Paradox" music project offers insights into the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive yet intimate, diverse yet familiar. Since 2013, Kleinekottmann has been regularly releasing LPs/EPs that oscillate between indie, experimental rock, and electronica.
The latest work, "A Trace To Keep Control," transports listeners to the feeling of loss of control by addressing personal upheaval, the end of intimate relationships, the pressing climate crisis, and the social shift to the right. The album is an artistic exploration in which the personal, political, and social are interwoven in the lyrics.
The musical landscape of "A Trace To Keep Control" skillfully combines elements of krautrock, post-punk, and experimental rock into a dynamic web. Saxophones and clarinets lend a jazzy touch to some tracks, lending the 49-minute album a highly multifaceted dimension.
The album will be released on May 17, 2024, via Timezone Records. It presents itself as an artistic manifesto that captures the challenges of perceived loss of control and musically explores the path to orientation amidst the uncertainties.
