Raindance Kid is a Hamburg country noir and post rock band that has its roots in Americana, but repeatedly leaves the romantic, dusty paths of alternative country and lets itself drift in sound experiments between psychedelic rock and brutal electric guitar ambience.
RDK creates a sound that is, in every moment, more than the sum of its individual parts: banjo, electric guitar, bass, violin, drums, and vocals. Musical longing and poetic obsession are the stuff this band's dreams are made of. And they're only too happy to share them with their listeners, sweeping them away in a sonic hurricane between violence and sensuality, between trance and ecstasy.
The term "country noir" is not for nothing based on the classic film noir genre. The songs repeatedly focus on the individual thrown back on themselves, sometimes as an outlaw, defying the law of the wilderness, sometimes as a neurotic, defying urban solitude, and encountering both the ecstasy of joy and the oddities and depths of human relationships. In this stylized sadness, a lyrical artistic space and a symbolically laden world of inwardness, spirituality and poetic contemplation break through in a language interwoven with metaphors and allegories.
All the more surprising is the subtle (self-)irony that repeatedly appears in the otherwise rather heavy and dark-romantic lyrics.
The urge to continually explore and reinvent their sound, musical expression and their very own language drives this unusual band.
