Ralph Symann (*1974) spent his childhood and youth in Nordwalde (Münsterland). Even during his school years, he received diverse and stimulating music instruction, which enabled him to become familiar with a broad spectrum of musical grammars at an early age.
Ultimately, he found his true artistic home in classical music and the musical language in which he would subsequently express himself. After graduating from high school, he pursued self-taught compositional studies, drawing on the theoretical foundation of the writings of Marpurg, Heinichen, and Mattheson, among others.
Since 2004, Ralph Symann has been working privately as a composer in Nordenham. He writes vocal and instrumental music for a wide variety of ensembles. The CD "Sub specie aeternitatis" is his first album.
It contains a collection of 11 motets for choir and basso continuo, each of which has its own distinctive character through the integration of diverse styles and the application of different compositional techniques: canons and fugues are represented, as are homophonic writing, simple two-part composition, and full double choir. The music will be performed by the Monteverdi Chamber Choir Würzburg under the direction of Matthias Beckert, with accompaniment by members of the Monteverdi Ensemble.
