Rio Nin - Traces Of The Past (CD)
"I want music that celebrates what is and what we often no longer even perceive. Something that lies beyond all words."
On his second album, "Traces Of The Past," Rio Nin not only slows down the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but also retraces the traces of the past. These traces bring back all the happy feelings and memories he thought were lost.
It all started in sleepy Nordhorn. Covering songs? Singing along? Absolutely not. At 15, you have a lot to say to the world. So Rio Nin, aka Mario Brünink, taught himself a few chords, formed a band with a friend, and stormed… no, not into the charts… but onto anything that even remotely resembled a stage. You have to sweat it out to earn your first musical laurels. "We didn't want to be coffin savers," says Brünink. "We didn't want to be people wasting their lives away." Music was a protest. Against numb feet, narrow-minded thinking, and the monotony of the sofa.
"I wanted something completely different. To break out into his long-term musical memory with "Smoke on the Water" and "Wish You Were Here." Something was happening, and he wanted to be part of it. The first compositions were recorded on a borrowed tape. Singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and the Eagles encouraged him.
“That has always remained the same: I want to make a difference with my music,” says the guitarist.
And for that, he was and still is willing to use any stylistic means. He blends elements of folk, rock, jazz, and classical music with a fine touch, creating his own distinctive sound.
Rio Nin: “Nature, in particular, has always inspired me.”
Nin isn't one for pigeonholing styles. Whether with influences from fado, Mediterranean light music, folk, or Bach, Rio Nin creates spaces with his music that you want to crawl into on his expressive steel-string guitar and with his fingerpicking technique. And in which you immerse yourself, wide-eyed, in the beauty of the world. All without words. Simply good music.
