"Vocally, frontman Roberto Morbioli's voice sounds as if he hadn't traveled from Verona, but flown in directly across the pond from the southern states. His fast fingers on the guitar are fascinating, his playing technique outstanding [...]. He lets the instrument howl with distortion and roughness; it can purr melodiously under his supervision, a bear-like sound emerges from the clear chord sequences." Heidrun Gehrke (Backnang)
Roberto Morbioli – exceptional guitarist, singer, songwriter, and frontman of the Europe-renowned band Morblus for over 25 years – is reinventing himself! With a new sound, a new (trio) formation, and a new title, under which the Veronese native has already made a name for himself in the US for years, a new chapter in the career of the musical virtuoso is opening. The title of the album, "From Scratch," ("From Scratch"), the 12th in his discography, seems fitting.
After many years of “Blues, Funk, Soul” (electric & acoustic) and projects with renowned artists such as Guitar Shorty, Jesse Yawn, Lucky Peterson, Paul Orta, John Mayall, Roomful of Blues and Big Daddy Wilson, Roberto is now striking a rougher, rockier tone and is returning to a reduced, cleaner sound of his trio (bass/guitar), which is refined in some songs by the saxophone of Tommy Schneller and the trumpet of Gary Winters.
True to his motto, "A good chef doesn't need many ingredients for an extraordinary dish—just the right ones!" Everything different, everything new? Not quite, because what remains is the tried-and-tested mix of slow and up-tempo songs, loud and quiet tones inspired by a wide variety of musical styles. And, of course, live, the obligatory walk through the audience, when Roberto captivates the audience with his flirtatious guitar and invites them on a trip through his world.
