Blues guitarist and composer Roland Schal, born in Gütersloh, Westphalia, in 1956, presents a highly diverse album with "Finally." Consisting entirely of his own compositions, it is the essence of this versatile musician's 50 years of musical oeuvre.
In tribute to BB King and Jimi Hendrix and inspired by Kenny Burrell, the album's repertoire ranges from shuffles to funky grooves and Latin American sounds to jazz ballads. The composition "Love" could have been written by Carlos Santana, and the song "It's Over" shines with the warm, soulful voice of rock lady Mennana Ennaoui.
Roland Schal coaxes its signature sound, famous even among experts, from each instrument. He plays authentically and with soul – "just the way it should be!" On this album, he is joined by Henner Malecha on bass and Wolfgang Roggenkamp on a Hammond B-3 with "Mojo," as Jimmy Smith and Ray Charles have already played on the exact same organ.
No wonder, then, that the spirit of these legends can actually be heard and felt here!
