Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Sedated, Sheena Is A Punkrocker, and the like—who doesn't know these songs? But the legendary Ramones also had a lot of songs that received little attention, even among some fans, and some of them were never played live by the New York punk pioneers. This is unjustified, according to the Runarounds, who are dedicated exclusively to lesser-known Ramones material from the 1980s.
True to this motto, "Ramonitis" features eight rocking songs never before included on any official Ramones tribute album. From "All The Way" to "Come Back, Baby" to "Highest Trails Above," "Ramonitis" brings underappreciated classics back into the spotlight. With meticulous attention to detail, Alex Lex created a production that—in addition to the selection of tracks—also revives the Ramones' eighties flair.
The songs are presented in a blend of Phil Spector's jukebox pop appeal and Richie Cordell's dark new wave sound, offering an interesting change from more stripped-back punk productions. Wonderfully poppy background vocals, handclaps, and Farfisa organ meet the band's signature sawing guitars and driving drums.
There's an added bonus for genre fans: The cover was designed by none other than Fuzztones icon Rudi Protrudi. The runarounds on "Ramonitis" impress with their authentic closeness to the original, yet without being a careless copy. An album by fans for fans that will blow your hair back in a flash and leave you grinning in no time! Just like the Ramones once did.
